More Growing Information:

The Blue Shimeji is what happens when an oyster mushroom takes itself a little more seriously. Deeper colour, denser clusters, and a slightly richer flavour than the standard Pearl — it's the oyster variety that impresses people who already know mushrooms.
Our Organic Blue Shimeji Oyster Mushroom Grow Kit is made on our Tamborine Mountain farm using locally grown spawn and certified organic substrate. Open the bag, mist, and let it do the rest.
About Blue Shimeji mushrooms
Blue Shimeji (Pleurotus ostreatus) produces dramatic, deep blue-grey to charcoal clusters that fan out in tight, overlapping shelves. The appearance is more striking than the pale Pearl Oyster, and the flavour follows suit — slightly nuttier and more complex, with the same silky texture that makes oysters so satisfying to cook with.
"Shimeji" refers to the clustered, clumped growth habit — each harvest arrives as a beautiful dense bouquet of caps that hold together well for presentation. They're excellent sautéed whole, torn into pasta, or kept as intact clusters for a dramatic plate.
How it grows
Blue Shimeji is a cool-weather grower, performing best at 14–20°C — making it a natural autumn and winter kit across most of Australia. Like all oysters, it's fast to fruit: expect pins within 5–10 days of opening and misting. Multiple flushes are possible — rest the block for a week between harvests.
The Kai Kai Farm difference
Made on our farm in the Tamborine Mountain highlands — locally grown spawn, certified organic substrate, packed to order. Backed by our grow guarantee. If it doesn't fruit, we'll make it right.
