Mushroom Cultivation

Grow, Make, Read Mushrooms

Everything you need to go from curious beginner to confident mushroom cultivator.

For your kitchen & garden

What is bokashi composting?

A Japanese fermentation method that turns all your food waste — including meat, dairy, and cooked food — into rich soil amendment in just weeks. No smell. No flies. No mess.

How bokashi works — 3 simple steps

Unlike traditional composting which can be slow and smelly, bokashi ferments your food waste quickly and cleanly — right inside your kitchen.

1
Add your food scraps to the bokashi bin
Layer any kitchen scraps — meat, fish, dairy, cooked food that regular bins can't handle. Press down firmly to remove air pockets and keep it anaerobic.
2
Sprinkle bokashi bran between layers
Our organic bokashi bran is packed with billions of EM-1 microorganisms. These ferment your food waste rather than letting it rot — eliminating odours completely.
3
Drain the liquid gold & bury the pre-compost
Drain bokashi liquid every few days — dilute 1:100 with water for a potent liquid fertiliser. After 2 weeks, bury the fermented material and watch it become rich compost in another 2–4 weeks.

Why bokashi beats regular composting

Ferments ALL food waste — meat, dairy, cooked leftovers, citrus, onion. Ordinary composting can't handle these.
No unpleasant smells — fermentation produces only a mild, pickled aroma. No rotting odour, no flies, no pests.
Two fertilisers from one bin — bokashi liquid (dilute for plants) and pre-compost (bury in soil). Double the garden benefit.
Works indoors — compact bins fit under your kitchen sink. No outdoor space or big compost pile needed.
Ready in weeks, not months — bokashi fermentation takes just 2 weeks. Regular composting takes 3–12 months.

Home & garden range

Natural garden solutions for the conscious grower

Our home and garden range uses the same regenerative principles we apply on the farm — building healthy soil, reducing waste, and growing stronger plants the natural way.

Our Story

From our farm on Tamborine Mountain to your home

Our story started with a simple passion: the hidden world of fungi and the life beneath our soil. What began as growing organic, no-spray gourmet mushrooms for local chefs on Tamborine Mountain has grown into a complete range of tools for the modern grower.

Whether you're harvesting your first tabletop mushroom farm or regenerating your soil with our EM-1 probiotic tonics, you're using the exact same professional-grade supplies we trust in our own fields here in the Gold Coast hinterland.

We believe in growing food and building soil the way nature intended — no chemicals, no shortcuts. Just time, care, and a deep respect for the living systems around us.

Do you deliver fresh mushrooms to the Gold Coast and Brisbane?

Yes — we deliver fresh gourmet mushrooms to the Gold Coast, Scenic Rim, and surrounding regions. Mushroom kits ship free Australia-wide. Fresh mushroom orders are available weekly , sending Monday - Wednesday via AusPost Express. Local Tamborine Mountain customers can also collect directly from the farm.

How long do fresh gourmet mushrooms last in the fridge?

Our fresh mushrooms are harvested and packed within a few days giving you maximum shelf life. Store in the provided container or a paper bag (not plastic) in the fridge. Lion's Mane and Shiitake last 5–7 days. Oyster mushrooms are best used within 3–5 days. Avoid storing near strong-smelling foods, as mushrooms absorb aromas easily.

Are your mushroom kits beginner-friendly?

Absolutely. Our mushroom kits are designed to make growing at home as simple as possible — no prior experience needed. Simply open the kit, mist daily, and watch mushrooms appear within 7–14 days. Each kit comes with detailed instructions and our online guides cover everything from setup to harvest. Most customers successfully grow 2–3 flushes from a single kit.

What is bokashi bran and how does it work?

Bokashi bran is wheat bran inoculated with EM-1 (Effective Microorganisms) — beneficial bacteria, yeast, and fungi. When you sprinkle it over kitchen scraps in an airtight bokashi bin, it ferments the food waste rather than letting it rot. The result is a pre-compost that enriches your garden soil, plus bokashi liquid — a powerful liquid fertiliser when diluted 1:100 with water.

Can bokashi composting handle meat and dairy?

Yes — this is one of bokashi's biggest advantages over regular composting. The fermentation process safely handles meat, fish, dairy, cooked foods, and even small bones. The key is maintaining an anaerobic (air-free) environment and using enough bokashi bran. Avoid large amounts of liquid or very wet food waste.

What are fermented plant extracts and are they safe for edible gardens?

Fermented plant extracts (FPEs) are natural liquid fertilisers made by fermenting plant material in molasses and probiotics. They're 100% natural, chemical-free, and completely safe for edible gardens, vegetables, and food crops. In fact, they're far safer than synthetic fertilisers — no risk of burning plants and no chemical residues on your produce.
