🐾 Purpose-Built for Pet Waste — Not Just Repurposed Kitchen Bran
Standard bokashi bran is great for food scraps — but pet waste is a different beast.
Pet-Kashi is specially formulated with a higher concentration of EM-1 microorganisms and the addition of Zeolite and Malted Barley.
Zeolite - a natural volcanic mineral, specifically to tackle the tougher proteins, ammonia, and pathogens found in animal waste.
Malted Barley - a food feast for EM-1 microorganisms helping accelerate numbers before devouring the animal waste.
It's not a workaround — it's purpose-built.

🇦🇺 Australian-Made, Farm-Fresh
Made right here on Kai Kai Farm in the Scenic Rim, Queensland — not imported. Every batch is fresh, locally produced, and uses certified organic inputs. No imported markup, no shelf-sitting.

🦠 Remediates Pathogens Safely
EM-1 fermentation creates an acidic, microbial active environment that significantly reduces harmful pathogens like E. coli and fecal coliforms found in dog and cat waste — far safer than leaving waste in landfill or on the ground.

🪣 Works With Any In or Above Ground System
Pet-Kashi is a direct replacement for EnsoPet Mix and any other bokashi pet starter. Use it in your existing in-ground composter, or start a DIY system with just a bucket and a hole in the ground.

🌿 Feeds Your Ornamental Garden
Once fermented and buried, pet waste processed with Pet-Kashi enriches your soil with beneficial microorganisms — improving soil structure and feeding ornamental plants, trees, and lawn areas.

🚫 No More Plastic Bags to Landfill
The average dog owner sends hundreds of plastic bags to landfill every year. Pet-Kashi closes the loop — waste goes back to the earth, not into a plastic bag destined for decades underground.

Collapsible content
What is Pet-Kashi and how is it different from regular Bokashi Bran?
Pet-Kashi is a specialised bokashi bran formulated specifically for pet waste — dog poo, cat litter, rabbit droppings, and more. While our regular Bokashi Bran is designed for kitchen food waste, Pet-Kashi contains a higher concentration of the specific Effective Microorganisms (EM-1) needed to break down the tougher proteins, pathogens, and ammonia compounds found in animal waste. It also contains Zeolite — a natural mineral that supercharges odour neutralisation, something standard bran doesn't include. Think of it as Bokashi Bran, but purpose-built for your pets.
What pets and waste types can I use Pet-Kashi for?
Pet-Kashi works for dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, and most other domestic animals. It handles solid waste (poo), cat litter (clay or biodegradable), and even small amounts of bedding and fur. It is not recommended for large volumes of livestock waste — for that, our standard Bokashi Bran in bulk is a better fit.
How do I use Pet-Kashi with an in-ground composter like EnsoPet?
Pet-Kashi is a direct drop-in replacement for the EnsoPet Mix starter. Simply use it the same way: add your pet waste to the in-ground composter and sprinkle 1–2 handfuls of Pet-Kashi over each deposit. The EM-1 microorganisms will get to work immediately, neutralising odours and breaking down pathogens. Pet-Kashi is also compatible with any DIY bottomless-bucket in-ground system.
What is the difference between Pet-Kashi, EnsoPet Mix, and DooKashi?
All three use beneficial microorganisms to break down pet waste, but Pet-Kashi is made fresh on Kai Kai Farm in Queensland using certified organic inputs — including organic wheat bran, organic molasses, and live EM-1 cultures — with Zeolite added for superior odour control and malted barley for extra microbial food. EnsoPet Mix is a solid product but uses a broader microbial blend. DooKashi is a US-based product not manufactured in Australia. Pet-Kashi is Australian-made, farm-fresh, and available without the imported markup.
Is Pet-Kashi safe around children and other pets?
Yes. Pet-Kashi contains only natural ingredients — organic bran, sawdust, molasses, EM-1, and Zeolite. There are no synthetic chemicals, pesticides, or harmful additives. As always with any composting system, keep the composter away from play areas, wear gloves when handling pet waste, and wash hands after use. The Pet-Kashi bran itself is non-toxic and safe to have around the household.
Does Pet-Kashi actually eliminate the smell of dog or cat waste?
Yes — and this is where Pet-Kashi outperforms standard bokashi bran. The addition of Zeolite (a natural volcanic mineral with exceptional ion-exchange properties) specifically targets and traps ammonia gas — the main culprit behind pet waste odour. Combined with EM-1's ability to outcompete odour-producing bacteria, Pet-Kashi delivers noticeably faster and more complete odour elimination than a standard bokashi bran used on pet waste.
Can the compost from Pet-Kashi be used on my vegetable garden?
No — and this is important safety advice for any pet waste composting system. Compost or pre-compost derived from dog, cat, or other carnivorous pet waste should only be used around ornamental plants, trees, lawns, and garden beds that don't produce food for human consumption. This is standard guidance across all pet waste composting systems due to the potential for residual pathogens. Pet-Kashi enriches your ornamental garden beautifully — just keep it away from the vegie patch.
How much Pet-Kashi do I need and how long does a bag last?
For a single medium-sized dog, use 1–2 small handfuls of Pet-Kashi per deposit. A standard bag will typically last 1-2 months for one dog used daily. For multiple pets or larger dogs, you may go through it faster. If you notice odours returning, simply add a little extra Pet-Kashi — there's no such thing as using too much.
Do I need a special bin or can I use my existing setup?
Pet-Kashi works with any pet waste composting setup — including ours, EnsoPet, DIY bottomless-bucket systems, or any similar in-ground composter. You don't need to buy a new bin to switch to Pet-Kashi. Simply use it as a direct replacement for whatever bokashi or starter mix you're currently using. If you're starting from scratch, all you need is a bucket with the bottom cut out, a hole in the garden, and Pet-Kashi.
How should I store Pet-Kashi and does it expire?
Store Pet-Kashi in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and heat. Reseal the bag tightly after every use, squeezing out excess air. For best results, use within 3 months of the batch date. White spots or patches on the bran are a healthy sign of active microorganisms — not spoilage. Avoid storing in a hot shed, car, or anywhere with high humidity, as excessive heat and moisture can reduce microbial activity.
