Your bokashi bran does the heavy lifting, but the Bokashi Compost Spray is what keeps everything running smoothly between top-ups. A direct hit of EM-1 effective microorganisms — infused with lemongrass essential oil — sprayed over each layer of food waste to kickstart fermentation fast, neutralise odours before they start, and maintain a healthy microbial environment inside the bin.

When to use it

Starting a fresh bin: spray the base and first layer generously before adding your first food scraps. This inoculates the bin from day one and gets fermentation going faster than bran alone.

Between bran applications: if you've added a particularly odorous load — fish scraps, meat, cooked food — a spray directly onto the surface gives the microbes an immediate boost before the lid goes back on.

Refreshing a slow bin: if fermentation feels sluggish or you notice a sharp smell rather than the normal vinegary pickle scent, a generous spray can re-balance the microbial population and get things moving again.

General bin maintenance: a light spray around the inside walls and lid helps keep the bin surfaces colonised with beneficial microbes rather than competing pathogens.

What's in it

Activated EM-1 effective microorganisms (Lactic Acid Bacteria, beneficial yeasts, and phototrophic bacteria), rainwater, organic molasses, and pure lemongrass essential oil. The lemongrass does two things: it naturally deters insects, and it transforms the spray from something functional-but-pungent into something that actually smells good in a kitchen setting.

Ready to use — no dilution needed

Unlike some EM concentrates that require dilution before use, this spray is ready to go straight from the bottle. Each 500mL bottle goes a long way — a few sprays per layer is all it takes, so this will typically last several months of regular use alongside your bran.
