Mushroom Compost Blocks
Mushroom Compost Blocks

Please note, these are pick up from the farm stall only
Spent mushroom fruiting block substrate, perfect for your garden! The Tasmanian oak substrate is fully colonised with different strains of mycelium (oysters, shimeji, lions mane).
This is great for making the soil in the garden rich and worms love it for food. The bonus- you’ll get gourmet mushrooms popping up.
Blocks are normally $2/bag or 3 for $5, our stall is usually loaded up on Wednesdays with the ex fruiting blocks.

Wondering What To Do?
Can I Get Mushrooms?
Yes! You should get a small crop (or even two if your really lucky) from these blocks. Place somewhere shady and sprinkle with some water once or twice a day and after a week or so there might be some mushrooms growing.
Which Mushrooms Are These?
We normally put our oyster varieties out on the stall, sometimes if your really lucky there might be a lion's mane or two there.
How Do I Compost These?
These blocks are best incorporated into an existing garden bed or compost heap. The hardwood will breakdown quickly as the mycellium (mushroom roots) have already started breaking the cell walls down.
What Is In The Mix?
Our gourmet mushrooms do not grow on manure based substrate, instead they love hardwood mixed with some soy hull or wheat bran making for a great blend of carbon and nitrogen.
I Need A Trailer Load (Or More)
We don't produce enough for trailer loads, our blocks still have a lot of nutrition for plants in them so a couple of blocks per square metre or even less is enough.
When Do I Harvest?
When you see the caps of the mushrooms starting to curl upwards rather than curled inwards is a good sign they are ready to harvest and eat. Also if you start seeing light dust (spores) around the base of the mushrooms or block then its definitely time to harvest.
